Truth or Consequences -New Mexico Photos

Truth or Consequences -New Mexico Photos

In New Mexico, there is a town with strange name.
Truth or Consequences is the name of city located above Las Cruces and below Socorro.
From El Paso, it is about 1.5-2 hours driving distance.

I visited many times. Sometimes it was destination and other times, it was just pass to Elephant Butte Lake.

This T or C is to us young generation, it is difficult to guess why it became so or what it meant.
Actually old name Hot Springs is more understandable, by which everybody knows what town is famous, but when Radio Show in 1950 was flourishing, the guy named Ralph Edwards proposed and this town answered.

He told people if some city changed name to Truce or Consequences, he will forever advertise the city with radio show and others (annual party etc...).

Truth is Hot Springs.
And Consequence is "Truth or Consequences", that means Truth disappeared.
We don't know about T or C until we visit and find some Hot Springs.

Hot Springs are good quality and hot water flourish. One Hot Springs, I pay $10 for 1 hour and I can occupy one room with new hot water pouring in from big pipe. Temperature is just good and truly clean hot water. So, I visited many times to relax at hot springs.

But this is not Japanese Onsen Style hot springs.
It is very primitive, as you can see from my photos. Just hot tub only.
You cannot use soap or wash body outside of tub. Just soak in, that's all.
Someplace, half hour is just $6. And all private.

So I can say hot water is flourishing, abundant, but this hot springs business is just barely surviving with some local hot springs lovers and somebody like me need hot tub to relax.

River Rio Grande is flowing with abundant water, because this town is next to Dam and water is necessity for below farming business. Las Cruces is one of the great agricultural towns in New Mexico. And its success depends on water from the dam, or from Rio Grande.

Not busy town, but OK. I loved to visit.
