On January 26, 4th Sunday, we had regular Bonsai Club monthly meeting at Chief's house.
Now we have 19 members - active 17 and inactive 2.
On this day, 16 members gathered at chief's residence.
And it was indeed very active Bonsai operation, learning, teaching, demonstrating and eating snack after the hard work.
Weather was somehow cold, but without wind, it was good to do Bonsai operation.
January was good for transplanting, potting, grafting and others. So, this day, there was a special demonstration of Grafting by Bonsai Club chief.
We enjoyed working together and learning together.
After finished Bonsai work, we had luncheon talk.
Again president's wife and daughter brought home made snacks and Doughnuts.
We enjoyed eating.
After that, we had serious talk about result of 2019 Financial Statement. Mainly I talked about some important decision necessary to maintain healthy account of Bonsai Club.
It was about Bonsai donation made to Bingo club at JACC. We, Bonsai Club regularly donated 2 Bonsai Pots to Temple for their Raffle at the time of Obon-festival & Bonsai Show. But looking at F/S, I found Bingo donation in addition to Temple donation. So, I wondered if it were necessary, since we are not profit-pursuing organization. We are just Bonsai Hobby members' gathering. We don't need to advertise and we are humble to maintaining our club with limited membership fund. We have no extra resource to donate Bonsai pots to other parties. (To donate Bonsai Pot, Bonsai Club pay back to member who donate Bonsai, so, actually we lose cash by this action.)
And members agreed that we don't need to donate Bonsai from our Bonsai Club to Bingo-game association. If necessary, it should be done as private donation, not from SFV Bonsai Club.
Bonsai master asked members to take care sales-Bonsai as early as possible. Bonsai pot prepared for sales just before sales start are usually not rooted enough and it could easily die within a year. Potting Bonsai for sales must be prepared now, around January and February, then at the Bonsai Show & Sales time - end of June, it would be rooted and stay healthy.
And another request from Master was, somehow when individual members bring sales-Bonsai, it was still wired. Bonsai with Wire means not completed, just in-process. We cannot sell unfinished pots at Show time. We always noticed wired Bonsai at sales, but never mentioned. Now master advised to remove wire before selling, we can say we are just improving.
Meeting ended at almost 1:30 PM. We enjoyed this year's first meeting with Bonsai work and serious discussion.

SFV Bonsai Clubの１月の最初の会合は２６日、第４日曜日、新年会の翌日、同じ場所で９時ごろから開かれ、１時半ごろに閉会となりました。昨日の今日で、メンバーの集まりはどうかしらと心配していたら、なんとActive会員１７人のうち、一人が欠席しただけの盛会となりました。
メンバーがそれぞれ持ち込んだ盆栽に対する作業で、ガレージの中も外も忙しくにぎわいました。初心者は先生方から指導を受け、ベテランもマスターやチーフから本格的なGraftingテクニック、接ぎ木の方法のデモンストレーションを見ることになり、それぞれ忙しいひと時を過ごしました。
Mini-luncheon、スナックの時間となり、いつものように会長夫人家族が用意されたおいしいスナックをいただき、ドーナツも味わいながら、家族的なMeetingを楽しむことができました。
会長からのあいさつの後、私はF/Sに関して問題点を指摘し、我々Bonsaiクラブは営利団体でもないのに、必要でないはずの寄付が２０１９年に実行されていることを告げ、その今後の正統性を問題としてとりあげました。どうやら過去にはマスターが個人的に関係があるということで寄付されていたということで、個人的に寄付するのは問題ないが、Bonsai Clubからの寄付となると、我々、メンバー会費だけでやりくりしているので会計的に問題が発生するという点で、一応、Bingoにクラブから寄付する必要はないということで意見がまとまりました。
ほかに、マスターからはセールスBonsaiを準備するのに、セールスの寸前になってPotを用意したのでは、根付くのが充分でなく、すぐに枯れてしまうケースががっせいしているから、セールス・盆栽は速い目、今の１月２月から用意して、Potに根付かせるようにという注意があり、さらに、セールス盆栽のはずなのに、Wireがついたままで売られているケースがあり、それはよくない、ワイアーがついているということは、まだ途中だということであるから、セールス・盆栽として出品するときにはワイアーを全部外して、形成して売り出すようにというもっともなアドバイスがありました。
ということで、１月初めの会合はほとんど全員に近いメンバーが参加して、まじめに議論しあい、接ぎ木の作法も学ぶ機会もあり、充実した会合となりました。
新しいメンバー希望者が見に来るかも、という話でしたが、それは実現しなかったようです。
